The SUPERDECK II system offers an increase in displacement as well as the benefits of the SUPERDECK I. The SUPERDECK II raises the deck height with a deck plate (shown above). For example, a stock Honda B16 can be transformed into the popular Honda B18. The deck plate, made from billet aluminum, not only raises the deck height but strengthens the block with an integrated deck support. The SUPERDECK II deck support constrains the top of the sleeve in an open deck block to prevent head gasket failure from sleeve movement. ERL machines a recess into the deck and around the sleeves that precisely matches the deck support. The machining tolerance held in this operation is ±.002” to achieve a precise press fit. The deck support is machined from aluminum because aluminum conducts heat 7 times better than ductile iron. Darton Ductile Iron sleeves replace the stock cast iron sleeves. The Darton Ductile Iron sleeves are proven in race engines to hold over 40 psi of boost. ERL has patented the innovative SUPERDECK II system.

The Process:
1. Remove original cast iron sleeves and wash block.
2. Machine block deck and bore block to receive new Darton Ductile Iron Sleeves.
3. Press in Darton Ductile Iron Sleeves.
4. Mill interior surface of block to receive ERL SUPERDECK II and mill top of new sleeves to proper deck height.
5. Align bore main bearing journals in proper relationship to Honda dowel holes.
6. Align hone main bearing journals to proper bore size for ERL Superback main bearings.
7. Install ERL SUPERDECK II.
8. Hone Cylinders to proper size and crosshatch.
9. Plateau hone cylinders for a proper finish and to achieve good oil control
