Item Description
All these Helmets are the result of Arai's pursuit of a comprehensive package, one providing comfort and function is an attractive package while masking the hidden energy-manegement system within.
GP5 (PED)
Incorporates Arai's exclusive, premium Sclc2 (Super Complex Laminate Construction) shell technology. Because of this proprietary aerospace fiberglass composite, the GP5 offers the benefit of improved impact-energy management properties, as well as low helmet weight without the use of trendy lightweight materials which may not be properly suited for use in helmet applications.
PED: Performance Enhancing Devices are include as a kit in the helmet box, giving the driver a choice of installing after painting or immediately if the helmet will not be painted.
Upper-ventilation system incorporates three intake air ducts in the front and two delta exhaust outlets in the rear for improved airflow performance. Depending on the application, the installation of the rear PED component can dramatically enhance ventilation performance.
Lower-ventilation systems feature two large air-intake clots in the chin bar area. Located just under the shield, they flow air to the muti-dimensional air passages that direct air towards the face and mouth at multiple angles for improved fresh air distribution. Again, depending on the application, the installation for the front PED component can dramatically enhance ventilation performance.
Arai's GP series also utilizes a proprietary flame-retardant interior material knows as Carbon Knit. It's softer for better comfort and also offers excellent performance in the event of a fire.
The shape and size of the GP-5 (PED) face shield both compliments the shell design and saves weight in process.
GP5-K
The GP-5K is largely based on it big brother, the GP-5(PED), while offering a more affordable alternative for drivers not wanting all the features of the more expensive GP-5(PED). The GP-5K is heavily favored by sedan or rally drivers, who do not require all the upper ventilation found on the GP-5(PED) while at the same time appreciate the slightly larger eye port opening (approx 10mm-15mm up and 5mm down).
All helmets are already pre-drilled for installations of HANS device.
The interior fit is typical Arai, benefiting from over 50 years of research and refinement, and resulting in a helmet that more closely matches the shape of the human head. The fir is snug, allowing for the smallest possible helmet to be worn while still being comfortable. (Most often, a poor-fitting helmet results in the driver choosing a helmet that is a full size - or more too large in an effort to avoid painful pressure points inherent in a poor fit.)
Combined with legendary comfort and fit, Arai concentrates on balance and a lower center of gravity. All too often, people concentrate more on the weight of the helmet instead of how that weight is distributed over the entire helmet, how much of the weight is carried down low, and, most importantly, how that weight's balance is carried on you head - up on top of the helmet where it's more susceptible to buffeting and where it can put more stress and discomfort near the shoulders. (A properly-fitted helmet will distribute the weight of the helmet more evenly over and around your head, actually making the helmet seem lighter. A helmet that is more evenly balanced and carries more of its weight down low will appear to be lighter and cause less fatigue.)
Constructed of Arai’s exclusive clc (Complex Laminate Construction) shell technology, which is less costly and slightly heavier than Arai’s lightest Sclc material, allowing for a lower retail cost, while still providing the same level of impact energy management.
The exterior and interior shape and design are identical to those found on the GP-5(PED) and utilizes the same shield, shield hardware and tear-offs.
Upper ventilation is comprised of a single intake and single exhaust duct.
GP-5W
Is largely based on its big brother, the GP-5(PED), while taking some cues from the GP-5K model. The eye port of the GP-5W has been enlarged to 90mm (aprrox 3.5”) as compared to the 72mm), and should be heavily favored by sedan, rally and open wheel drivers.
Removable, washable & replaceable cheek pads, which allow more frequent and thorough cleaning and/or replacement for a more personalized fit for those with a narrower or broader facial structure than anticipated with the stock dimension.
The upper ventilation system incorporates two large intake ducts and the same two exhaust vent ducts found on the GP-5(PED). This vent system will allow for excellent airflow in open-wheel cars, as well as allow for improved air flow even within the confines of a sedan or closed cockpit.
